The name 'DARROCH MHOR' (pronounced' More'), is Gaelic for 'Big Oak', and in the grounds we have one of the oldest oak trees in Europe. Reputed to have been planted by Mary Queen of Scots during her visit to Carrick Castle in the summer of 1563. The castle which is being restored, gives its name to the village and situated in the centre of the village, Darroch  Mhor.

The Rest and be Thankful

  Darroch Mhor is a small privately run developement set on shores of Loch Goil, just over one hours drive from Glasgow. Carrick Castle can only be reached by a narrow winding road which decends between mountains from the Rest and be Thankful pass, and thus because there is no through traffic it offers peace and relaxation in a truly unspoilt surrounding

Each chalet is positioned to offer a panoramic view of the loch and hills. They are all electric with fitted kitchen, microwave and small freezer, bathroom with bath and electric shower and colour TV with DVD player in the lounge. Continental quilts and covers are provided, but please bring sheets and towels.
